Latest Alexa Update Takes Bluetooth Connectivity to New Heights
Amazon Announced the Alexa Mobile Accessory (AMA) Kit to Transform Go-to Voice Experience
Undeniably, Alexa is the ubiquitous technology of the modern generation. The voice search platform has made it to the deepest corners of our lives and routine. From fitness to music, the smart voice tool has the power to transform the way we communicate with speakers! Alea’s integration with speakers, appliances, TVs, and other smart IoT devices provide the go-to experiences that everyone craves for. Last week, Amazon took the experience a notch higher with the introduction of Alexa Mobile Accessory (AMA) Kit, making it available to all Bluetooth device makers. The AMA Kit is a pivotal technology that drives Alexa’s go-to experiences over headphones and speakers and other Bluetooth devices.

For developers who are engaged in building new Alexa-enabled accessories, the AMA protocol is supported by Qualcomm. This is included in their Smart Headset Reference Design for Amazon AVS, the first reference design qualified by Amazon specifically for Bluetooth headset devices.
In an official Amazon blog, Alfred Woo said, “With Alexa integrated into their BT device, customers can enjoy convenient access to their favorite Alexa features and capabilities on the go: music, news and information, smart home controls, and tens of thousands of Alexa Skills.”
What are the benefits of integrating Alexa Mobile Accessory (AMA) Kit to Bluetooth Devices?
Alexa Mobile Accessory (AMA) Kit leverages a “custom protocol” for the transmission of Alexa audio data. This kit control signals over Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), enabling the device to set up a seamless communication line with the Amazon Alexa App on an Android or iOS smartphone. It seamlessly pairs with the Amazon Alexa App.
How this benefits the device makers?
The Bluetooth device makers can use the custom Alexa app that is readily available for Android and iOS gadgets. With new AMA Tool Kit, device makers can significantly cut down on their product development, software integration/migration and testing process for voice-based search devices and IoT devices.
Secondly, there is absolutely no need to physically update an Alexa version. The AMA Tool Kit After automatically updates the Bluetooth devices paired with the technology to include “new Alexa features and functionality when they arrive in the Amazon Alexa App.”

“The Alexa Mobile Accessory Kit enables device makers to build Alexa into new form factors with minimum investment in hardware or integration effort,” said Priya Abani, Director, Amazon Alexa.
Priya added, “This solution is made even more robust with the support for AMA through Qualcomm’s reference designs, as well as multiple systems integrators with AMA solutions already qualified by Amazon. Bose and Sony have used AMA to create incredible products with Alexa built-in, and we can’t wait to see more delightful Alexa experiences enabled by AMA.”
Currently, AVS makes it easy to develop products with Alexa built-in and bring voice-forward experiences to customers. Through AVS, you can add a new natural user interface to your products and offer your customers access to a growing number of Alexa features, smart home integrations, and skills.
